Great white shark diving in Cape Town

Cage diving with the world’s most famous and feared predators of the deep is truly an experience never to be forgotten and having recently been on this trip herself, our Guest Relations Manager Chuma is well placed to tell you all about it and help you book this thrilling day tour.

The White Shark diving trips that we recommend take place near the small fishing harbour of Gansbaai about two hours drive from Cape Town. You can drive yourself if you prefer but as it is a very early start we recommend the more relaxing option of being collected from your Cape Portfolios property by the tour operator and driven to Gansbaai in time for a light breakfast and introductory talk before boarding the boat.

The shark dive usually takes place about 30 minutes out to sea near the seal colony of Dyer Island which attracts large numbers of sharks, so you are highly likely to spot one or more great whites, of up to 4m in length, or other species of shark, from the safety of the large submerged cage attached to the boat. Depending on the time of year, you may well also enjoy sightings of whales, dolphins and seals from the boat.

The highly professional and experienced shark dive operators that we use only take up to around 15-20 people per trip, giving everyone on board as much time as possible in the cage. No diving experience is required as you simply stand in the cage and lower your head below the water for long enough to see the scarily huge sharks passing right in front of you!

Our recommended shark diving trips include transport to and from Gansbaai, as well as breakfast and snacks during and after the boat trip. To place a booking or to find out more about our white shark diving trips please contact our Guest Relations Manager, Chuma Gwenxa:-
