Full Day Cultural and Township Tour
Our full day guided Cultural and Township tour includes a visit to Langa and Khayelitsha, Cape Town’s largest and most vibrant townships, a boat trip and tour of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, and a trip to the District Six museum to learn about the impact of apartheid on historic Cape Town communities such as this.
The township tour guides we work with ensure the tours are conducted safely and feel far from exploitative. The local communities you will visit are all keen to welcome visitors to experience township life first hand, so you will be able to chat with locals about community projects, enjoy a township restaurant meal and taste home made beer in a local “shebeen”.
An African Cooking Experience in the Townships
We also offer a very informative half-day scheduled tour that is largely focused on experiencing daily life and cultural traditions in the townships.
The tour starts with a short visit to District Six, before heading to Langa township where you visit a local restaurant to learn about African and Xhosa culture and cuisine.
You will be taught to cook local dishes like pap (similar to polenta), chakalaka, samp and a typical meat stew. You can then enjoy the food that your group has prepared along with other local dishes in the restaurant.
