Table Mountain, Cape Town
Table Mountain dominates the Cape Town skyline and is visible from a 100kms or more from the City Centre but even as lifelong residents its incredible beauty and splendour is something we never take for granted. It plays a big part in our daily lives, whether it’s hiking up its many spectacular trails (or more lazily taking the cable car) or glancing up for a quick weather forecast as swirling cloud formations signal the arrival of the strong “Cape Doctor” winds. And even where we live, and work, in Cape Town is often discussed by reference to “which side of the mountain” you are on, with rival camps preferring the beaches and ocean sunsets on the lower slopes of the Twelve Apostles range to one side of Table Mountain, whole others will argue for the gentler, less exposed and greener southern suburbs on the other side.
In any event, Table Mountain is without doubt one of the most remarkable natural wonders in the world and indeed has been recognised as such being voted globally as one of the 7 “New Wonders of Nature” in 2012, being the only mountain selected, alongside other incredible feats of nature such as the Amazon rainforest and Argentina’s Iguazu Falls.
A trip up Table Mountain to enjoy the incredible views should certainly be high up on the “to do” list for any visitor to Cape Town. While all of our Cape Town villas and apartments are just a short drive away, here is a small selection of properties close by, or offering some particularly impressive views of Cape Town’s extremely large and much loved "lump of rock" –
