Atlantic seaboard accommodation
Flanking the lower slopes of Signal Hill above the main coast road out of Cape Town City centre lie the popular suburbs of Greenpoint, De Waterkant and Fresnaye which all offer great sea views, and easy access to the City and nearby beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.
Our hand-picked selection of quality rental properties in these areas can be viewed below, followed by some further information on these various destinations -
The small, vibrant suburb of Green Point on the lower slopes of Signal Hill lies between Sea Point and the commercial centre of Cape Town, very close to the popular V&A Waterfront. The main thoroughfare of Somerset Road that runs just below the main residential part of Green Point is lined with a great variety of restaurants, shops, cafes and night clubs and cabaret bars, making this one of the liveliest and fun parts of town to stay for those who enjoy a great night out.
Green Point is also extremely well placed for enjoying the excellent beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, just a 10-15 minute drive away and with the Waterfront and City Centre so close at hand Green Point really makes a great base as a holiday destination. The suburb has also taken on a much higher profile and benefited from improvements to infrastructure with the Cape Town Stadium being built on Green Point common between the residential area and the ocean, where there is also a fabulous award winning park and nearby golf course, the closest in Cape Town to the City centre. The nearby beachfront promenade area beyond the Stadium around Mouille Point is a very popular place for locals and visitors to walk, jog and cycle enjoying fabulous ocean views, and it's also not far to both the excellent large Virgin Active gym and the 50m outdoor swimming pool in Sea Point set dramatically above the (much colder) Atlantic ocean.
De Waterkant is a small and characterful sub-district of Green Point and lies between the historical muslim "Bo-Kaap" area and the V&A Waterfront, just a few minutes walk from the vibrant commercial centre of Cape Town. Sporting a vibrant energy unique to its cultural history dating back to the 1700's, with cobbled streets lined with trees and quaint, brightly coloured cottages, De Waterkant has been stylishly and thoughtfully developed over the years and now offers a trendy urban refuge from the bustling City close by.
De Waterkant has an abundance of excellent restaurants, quaint outdoor Parisian style cafes, art galleries, chic boutiques and craft shops and fashionable nightspots all cradled within a few pedestrian friendly blocks. It is also the perfect base from which to explore the buzzing markets at the V&A Waterfront, the pristine beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay just 10 minutes drive along the coast road and the lively Cape Town night life.
Fresnaye is arguably the most upmarket of the three coastal suburbs we feature in this section - an exclusive and highly sought after residential neighbourhood situated between Bantry Bay and Sea Point. It's just a short drive from Fresnaye to the beautiful white sandy beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay but also no more than 10-15 minutes from Cape Town's City Centre, the V&A Waterfront and many of the attractions of this wonderful City.
Being located high on the steep slopes of Lion's Head and Signal Hill mountains, Fresnaye is sheltered from the strong south easterly summer winds and has commanding views out over Table Bay towards Robben Island.
