Dwyka Tented Lodge
Full property description
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is about 3 hours drive from Cape Town near the town of Montagu. The Reserve boasts 54 000 hectares of undulating mountains and plains, indigenous flora and fauna and amazing rock formations and is famously home to the very rare white lion and other members of the "Big Five" in the heart of the Little Karoo semi-arid desert region.
Sanbona offers a choice of 3 types of luxury accommodation within the reserve that offer you the chance to enjoy the wonderful wildlife viewing and beautiful surroundings while relaxing and being looked after in great comfort.
These 3 options are featured separately on our website as the Dwyka Tented Camp, Tilney Manor and Gondwana Lodge.
The Dwyka Tented Camp comprises a total of 9 luxury tents, 7 with king beds and 2 twin beds but all with en-suite bathrooms. The camp is located further from the main gate to the reserve and works perfect for a small group of a couple looking for a romantic getaway.
Situated in a horseshoe bend of a dry Karoo ravine and surrounded by awe-inspiring rock formations, these luxurious and secluded tents exude an atmosphere of pioneering adventure in this vast landscape.

The sheer vastness of the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve and the stark beauty of the little Karoo leaves you with a sense of humbleness and this remote escape allows one to be at peace, to curl up and relax or explore the vast nature reserve.
Sanbona is home to the Big Five as well as the endangered riverine rabbit and the morning and evening game drives will enable one to view and enjoy the relaxed nature of the animals and birdlife. (there are more than 200 species and good population of raptors to be seen including African Fish Eagles, breeding pairs of majestic Black Eagles and regular sightings of Black Harrier).
Due to the scarceness of the vegetation and vastness of the reserve it is rare to see the "Big 5" on one game drive. However there is a wide variety of other animals: antelope, hippo, giraffe etc as well as archaeological sites, birding, rock art, and varied plant species to view during the drive.
